Attention: New Federal Law
The lead content provisions of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)
took effect on February 10, 2009, restricting the lead content of any products
designed primarily for children age 12 and younger. Due to the new lead content
restrictions of the CPSIA, it is illegal to sell these products on or after
February 10, 2009.
WE CAN NOT SELL, beginning
Feb. 10, 2009, the following new and used Suzuki products:
1). LT-Z50
2). LT-Z90
3). LT-A50
4). LT80
5). RM85
6). RM85L
7). RM60
8). RM65
9). DR-Z70
10). DR-Z125
11). DR-Z125L
12). DR-Z110
13). JR50
14). JR80
15). Other discontinued youth MC
and ATVs.
These new limits for all youth related products are unrealistic for the
PowerSports industry and was an oversight when making this bill into law! The
law states that any product with more that 0.6% of lead content by weight is
deemed illegal, which means any youth ATV or Dirtbike weighing about 170 Lb must
have less than one pound of lead content. Components which contain lead in a
motorcycle are mostly out of reach of children like brake pads, batteries,
carburetors, tires, rims, and some paint used on frames. No injuries have ever
been caused by these components and these parts would be inaccessible for most
children!

It Is Vital That You Contact
Congress
We continue to urge you to contact your representative member of Congress to
seek relief from this onerous legislation.

Recently, a few members of Congress wrote to President Obama urging him to take
immediate action to stop the effects of this legislation, which could certainly
cost the nation jobs, as well as negatively affect the revenues of businesses
like yours in this very difficult economy. We continue to hope that common sense
will prevail in Congress and that this legislation will be modified to exempt
youth model ATVs and off-road motorcycles, the lead content of which has never
been proven to harm children ages 12 and younger.
